Hygiene at Studio28: How We Keep You Safe
Choosing a tattoo studio comes down to more than portfolios. Tattooing breaks the skin, which means hygiene isn't a nice-to-have — it's the foundation everything else sits on. Here's exactly how we work at Studio28, so you know what you're walking into.
Licensed, inspected, and insured
Studio28 is fully licensed under Wales' special procedures licensing scheme — the regulations that came into force to raise the bar on tattooing, piercing, and similar procedures across the country. That means our premises have been inspected and approved by the local authority against a legal standard.
On top of the shop licence, every artist here holds their own individual special procedures licence and carries full professional insurance. Not one blanket shop licence covering everyone — each artist, individually licensed and individually insured.
How we work, day to day
Single-use needles and tubes. Everything that touches your skin is new, opened in front of you, and disposed of immediately after. Nothing is ever reused.
Autoclave sterilisation. Any non-disposable equipment goes through a medical-grade autoclave, which uses high-pressure steam to kill bacteria and viruses.
Barrier protection. Machines, clip cords, chairs, and work surfaces are covered with disposable films and replaced between every client.
Surface disinfection. Workstations are cleaned with professional-grade disinfectant before and after every single session.
Hand hygiene and gloves. Hands washed thoroughly, fresh gloves for every client, changed during the session as needed.
Sharps and waste. All contaminated material goes straight into sealed sharps containers and licensed clinical waste disposal.
Your part in it
Aftercare is where most problems actually start, and that part is down to you once you leave us. Come to your appointment showered and in clean clothes, don't touch the area during the session, and follow the aftercare leaflet we give you properly — wash, dry, apply, three times a day for the first week.
If anything looks wrong while it's healing — worsening pain, spreading redness, pus or odour, or a temperature — get in touch with us straight away on 01495 211039. We'd far rather you called and it turned out to be normal healing than left it.
We also offer a free touch-up if you lose a little ink once it's fully healed. Just get in touch and we'll sort it.
Any questions, just ask
Nobody should feel awkward asking a studio about hygiene. If you want to know how something works, or want to see the setup before you commit to anything, ask us — we'd rather you booked with confidence.
